Public Transportation
Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is the region's public transportation system. HRT provides one fare routes and connections within and between the cities of Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Hampton, Newport News and Suffolk.
Routes cover virtually all major shopping centers, schools and military bases.
HRT also operates the free Norfolk Electric Transit (NET) shuttle bus service in downtown Norfolk.
HRT'S Paddlewheel Ferry is a system of three 150-passenger paddlewheel ferry boats. The ferry travels between Portsmouth and downtown Norfolk.
