AfR'am Festival (May)

This festival is one of the largest family-oriented ethnic cultural celebrations on the East Coast with musical entertainment, historical information, food and children’s activities sponsored by the Southeastern Virginia Arts Association.
SATURDAY
A.M. Tour Nauticus, the Battleship Wisconsin and the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. Nauticus is a fun and exciting interactive science and technology center exploring the power of the sea. It features more than 150 exhibits, films and exotic aquatic life. The Hampton Roads Naval Museum introduces you to over 200 years of naval history in Hampton Roads. Located next to Nauticus is the Battleship Wisconsin, the largest and last battleship ever built by the U.S. Navy.
A.M. Stroll through 5,000 years of art history at the Chrysler Museum of Art, home to Walter Chrysler Jr.'s world-class collection of more than 30,000 pieces. The Museum features the world-renowned Tiffany-glass collection, Art Nouveau furniture, and works of art from African, Egyptian, Pre-Columbian, Islamic and Asian cultures along with an extensive European and American collection of paintings, sculpture and decorative arts. (Educational guided tours are available).
P.M. Stroll over to Town Point Park and enjoy the smooth melodies of R&B while delighting in the scrumptious culinary offerings and exploring all of the arts and educational displays the Afr'Am Festival has to offer.
Dinner
Enjoy a fun-filled night of dinner and dancing aboard the Spirit of Norfolk. Savor freshly prepared foods in a nautical setting accompanied by dynamic professional live entertainment. Themed cruises are available for groups.
Sunday
A.M. Head over to the Virginia Zoo and celebrate wildlife. The most exiting expansion in the Zoo’s history, the African habitat Okavango Delta provides students with 10 acres of unobstructed animal viewing. See lions, tigers and elephants. Experience wildlife first hand with the aid of the Virginia Zoo education department.
P.M. Stroll over to Town Point Park and enjoy the soulful sounds of Jazz and Gospel while grabbing a bite to eat at the Afr'Am festival. Fantastic entertainment, eclectic art and delicious food wait to be discovered.
